Accountants Salaries in Kenya

To be an accountant in Kenya you have to pursue either a professional course in accountant or a degree in business related courses. Accountants are among the highest paid professionals in Kenya, but good salaries come after an individual has gained substantial professional experience.

The highest paid accountants are found in most profitable companies in East Africa like Safaricom, Nation Media Group, Sportpesa, Bamburi Cement,BAT and The National Parliament.

The highest paid accountant earns Ksh 1.5 million, just some few thousands from the CFO of big corporations.

If you are lucky to have these qualifications, then you are likely to earn at least Ksh 120,000:

  • Bachelor of Commerce
  • CPA(K)
  • 5 years work experience

If you hold a CPA(K) qualification minus a degree then you should bargain for Ksh 25,000-Ksh50,000.But if you possess the professional paper and 5 years of experience bargain for Ksh50,000-Ksh 80,000

The highest paid accountants are those with the following experience:

  • Bachelor of Commerce
  • CPA (K)
  • At least 15 years work experience
  • MBA

Accountants in this category earn Ksh180, 000-Ksh500, 000.

Senior Accountants also fall under this category.

Assistant Accountants and cashiers earn the least because they possess least amount of experience. Data shows that these professionals earn Ksh 15,000-Ksh45, 000.

Also, the salary depends on the company you work for. What is shocking is that it’s not obvious that the most profitable companies pay the highest salaries. In fact, there are several cases where small companies pay better than big institution.

Also important to note is the ability of an employee to bargain for increment and how that employee is important to that institution.
