Bachelor of Medicine is the most sought after course in Nigeria because it’s marketable and with handsome pay. There are a couple of universities which are accredited to offer the program. Each university has its specific admission requirements.

Here are the requirements for the Bachelor of Medicine course in Nigerian universities:

Madonna University, Nigeria Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Admission Requirements

UME Entry Requirements

Students applying to be admitted into the six years programme for the award of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in Madonna University Nigeria, must satisfy the minimum University Matriculation Requirements. Such students must have at least five credit (5) passes in biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and English language in the West African School Certificate or its equivalent (GCE, SSCE, NECO), in not more than two sittings. However, the University reserves the right to further screen the students for admission by oral interview or aptitude test.

Direct Entry Requirements

In addition to requirements in the above, candidates who possess any of the following qualifications can be considered for admission.

  1. At least three advanced Level passes in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) The subjects should include Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Zoology.
  2. Candidates who possess the basic admission requirements as stated above in 1.4.(i) and possess a first degree of at least a second class lower division from recognized Institutions in the medical, para-medical, biological sciences.

The University of Sheffield Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Admission Requirements for Nigerian Students:

English Language Requirements

All applicants are required to have an internationally recognised English language qualification, such as IELTS or equivalent. SSCE (WAEC) English C6 or above is usually accepted in place of IELTS or equivalent, however this is at the discretion of each individual department.

If proof of English Language (IELTS), all applicants are required to have an internationally recognised English language qualification such as IELTS or equivalent. The minimum score that is accepted for entry is IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. Some departments may require a higher score.

English language entry requirements 

Undergraduate Programmes e.g. BSc, BA, BEng/ MEng

A variety of qualifications can be considered for direct admission to undergraduate bachelor degree programmes. All applications for undergraduate programmes should be made through UCAS.

A Levels
Applicants with a minimum of 3 A levels will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes.

International Baccalaureate
International Baccalaureate diploma holders will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes.

Other Qualifications
Applicants with one or more of the qualifications listed below will be considered for direct admission for Year 1 entry in our undergraduate programmes:

  • National Diploma with credit or distinction
  • Higher National Diploma with credit or distinction
  • Nigerian Certificate of Education

Applicants who wish to transfer from an undergraduate (WAEC or NECO) programme in Nigeria will be considered for Year 1 entry with strong SSCE grades and an Upper Class Second average in their undergraduate programme in Nigeria.

NCUK International Foundation Year
The University is a member of the Northern Consortium (NCUK) . NCUK offers an International Foundation Year (IFY) in Nigeria at Oxbridge School, Lagos. Students who have completed the IFY programme and have achieved the required academic level will be considered for admission to undergraduate programmes.

Babcock University Bachelor of Medicine Admission Requirements

Admission requirements:The entry requirement shall be through Unified tertiary institution admission(UMTE) a minimum of Five Credits in core sciences namely, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English language.

For Direct Entry, a higher school certificate or its equivalent or Bachelor of Science degree with second class upper division in life science disciplines – Anatomy, Biochemistry, Biology, Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Nursing, Physiology, Physiotherapy, Public health and Zoology from Babcock University or any institution recognized by the Senate of Babcock University. All eligible candidates must present their transcript and credit in English language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry at one sitting in the Ordinary Level examination.

Igbinedion University Bachelor of Medicine Admission Requirements

MATRICULATION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates seeking admission to pre-degree courses in Medicine at the College of Health
Sciences of the Igbinedion University must satisfy the general entry requirements of
Igbinedion University as well as special entry requirement for BNSc degree:
(A) Entry into 100 Level
The admission requirements are as follows:
1. Pass at the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board Examination plus
2. Igbinedion University Screening Examination/Interview plus
3. Pass at Credit level in five subjects: English language, Mathematics, Physics,
Chemistry and Biology at G.C.E. (Ordinary
level), West African School Certificate, (or Equivalent examinations) at not more than
two sittings from same examination

(B) Direct Entry into 200 Level
