ACADEMIC YEAR 2016/17 ADMISSIONS

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to apply for studies, through Open and Distance Learning delivery mode, leading to the award of Diploma in Education (Arts), Diploma in Education (Science), Bachelor of Arts (Education) and Bachelor of Science (Education), with the Centre for Open and Distance Learning. All admitted candidates will be self-sponsored.
The applications should reach the University by 8th April, 2016.

Malawi School Certificate of Education or its equivalent with:

  • an aggregate of not more than 30 points in the best six subjects and
  • at least credits in English (Language or Literature), and in any 3 of the following subjects: Geography, History, French, Bible Knowledge, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, Art, Chichewa, Commerce and Social and Development Studies

Programme Briefs

Diploma in Education (Arts)/Bachelor of Arts (Education), Diploma in Education Science/Bachelor of Science (Education) Programmes

  • These programmes are aimed at producing professional teachers for secondary schools in the following majors: French, History, Geography, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Theology and Religious Studies, and Religious and Moral Education.
  • In the Open and Distance Learning delivery mode, learners have the choice to combine Mathematics with any of the arts/humanities subjects (French, History, Geography, English, Theology and Religious Studies, etc.) or any of the science subjects (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics).
  • In the Diploma in Education/Bachelor of Arts (Education), learners will be encouraged to specialise in English/Chichewa/French as a deliberate effort to supply the much needed language teachers in the secondary school system.
  • The study programmes will start with a four-week orientation at Mzuzu University followed by sixteen weeks of home-study and 2 weeks of examinations in each semester.
  • Students will be required to pay at least half of the semester fees at the beginning of every semester. The fees quoted in the advertisement are subject to revision as may be determined by Council from time to time.

Application Procedure

All applicants should complete a Mzuzu University 2016/2017 ODL Admission Application Form and attach certified copies of their academic qualifications.
Application forms can be obtained from the University website www.mzuni.ac.mw; all District Education Managers’ Offices and at the Porters Lodge or Registry at Mzuzu University Campus.
Applications should be sent by post, or delivered by hand at Mzuzu University Campus in the Registry.  Applications sent by e-mail or by fax will NOT be accepted. Applicants submitting more than one application will be disqualified.

Candidates should also provide proof of ability to pay fees by attaching a letter from the sponsor or employer confirming sponsorship, or bank statements in the case of candidates supporting themselves.

Applications should be submitted with an admission application fee of K8,000.00 for Malawian applicants and US$150 for international applicants. Applications submitted without the admission application fee will be disqualified. Please note that the admission application fee is non-refundable.
