Construction or mjengo jobs in Kenya are classified into two categories: there are those senior jobs that require skills and those ones that require school dropouts and people without skills.

These jobs are common in towns like Nairobi, mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret and Kisumu and are not usually advertised.

In most cases if you want to get a mjengo job, you have to visit construction site and talk to wakubwa. They will offer you a job if there is any. But from my experience, you have to know at least someone who works there to introduce you to the one hiring.

Senior positions, however, require university graduates with skills like Architecture, Quantity Survey, Real Estate and Urban Planing. These jobs are usually advertised in newspapers and blogs.

People who work in construction sites earn an average pay of Ksh500 per day-the are paid daily wages. In towns like Nairobi, some companies pay up to Ksh1, 000.

Architecture and other professionals earn much higher.Salaries vary according to qualifications and companies hiring you.But the average salaries for these professionals is Ksh 90,000.
