Admission Requirements

Riara University provides a variety of market focused, highly competitive and accessible programmes to her students, aspiring professionals, executives and the general public. These include short professional courses and undergraduate programmes.

English is the language of instruction in all programmes of Riara University. Students who studied in a system where English is not the language of instruction must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or other relevant and commensurate test. Riara University admission requirements are given below.

Minimum Entry Requirements for Admission to the School of Education:

Applicants for the Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree programme must be holders of:

  • KCSE (or equivalent) mean grade of C+
  • O-Level with at least five credits
  • A-Level with at least two principals
  • IB diploma with at least 24 points
  • Diploma certificate from Teacher Training Colleges (TCCs), polytechnics or other recognized tertiary colleges.

Minimum Entry Requirements for Admission to the School of Business:

  • Applicants for the Bachelor of Business Administration degree programme must be holders of: KCSE (or equivalent) mean grade of C+ with a grade of C plain in English and Mathematics; or two principal passes in KACE/EAACE/GCE-ALEVEL with credit passes in Mathematics and English in the KCE or GCE Ordinary Level. Exemptions will be granted to holders of the following qualifications: Certified Professional Courses such as ACCA, CFA, CPS, CPA, CIM, CIMA (Post graduate level), AKIB and CIPS; Ordinary and Higher National Diploma Certificates.
  • Applicants seeking admission into the diploma programme must hold at least a mean grade of C (plain) in the KCSE with a grade of C in English and Mathematics.
  • Applicants seeking admission into the higher diploma programme must be holders of a degree or an ordinary diploma.

Minimum Entry Requirements for Admission to the Law School:

Applicants for the Bachelor of Laws degree must be holders of:

  • Have scored a mean grade of B- and above in KCSE or its equivalent with a B plain in English; or KACE with a minimum of two principal passes and one subsidiary pass; or be holders of a degree from a recognized university; and
  • Be an all rounded person with exceptional leadership skills and qualities; and
  • Participate in an oral interview to establish their suitability for the Riara Law School programme.

Minimum Entry Requirements for Diploma in International Relations Course:

To be admitted into the programme, applicants must have one of the following:

  • A minimum of C plain at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent with a C or above in English or Kiswahili.
  • Advanced (A) level or equivalent – 1 principal pass with a credit pass in English or Kiswahili at O – level.
  • Ordinary level or equivalent grade B and above

Minimum Entry Requirements for Diploma in Journalism:

To be admitted into the programme, applicants must have one of the following:

  • A minimum of C plain at KCSE or equivalent with a C or above in English or Kiswahili or relevent certi?cate.
  • Advanced (A) level or equivalent – 1 principal pass with a credit pass in English or Kiswahili at O – level or relevant certi?cate.
  • Ordinary level or equivalent grade B and above or relevant certificate.
