Passive Income Ideas in Kenya

987

There are several passive income ideas which are most ideal for Kenyans especially the youths and jobless graduates. Some of the activities will generate millions of shillings every month.

Passive income means that you will earn even when you are not doing anything. This is the best way to create sustainable wealth because some of the businesses you will venture into will yield income forever.

If you wish to become a millionaire in Kenya, go for passive income ventures. Below is a list of  the best activities for those interested in making money while doing nothing:

  • Blogging

Blogging is quite challenging when someone is starting, but as you progressively update your blog, passive income starts trickling in. There are Kenyan bloggers, like Kenyaplex, which created content a couple of years ago but they are still earning passive income from traffic the sites are generating.

The capital required to start a blog in Kenya is Ksh5,000 to Ksh20,000.To get started, visit Bluehost and register a domain name and acquire host space, click here to visit the hosting company website

The good thing about blogging is that you’ll be making money even when you are asleep. Kenyan bloggers make money by signing up with AdSense and linking the account with their blogs. They also make money through affiliate marketing, sponsored content and direct banner advertisements.

A blog like Fixus Jobs earns over Ksh 500,000 in a good month, we started making money from blogging in 2011.

  • Building Rental Apartments

If you have a good capital, at least Ksh500,000, build houses to let. Those houses will be yielding monthly income until you die.

Instead of starting businesses like, supermarket, matatu, pub or any other active income activity, build rental apartments and start earning money while asleep.

The best thing about rental apartments is that management is easy. You only need to employ a caretaker and wait for the income in your bank account.

  • Become a YouTube

YouTube is also another good source of passive income. Once your channel becomes popular, you’ll earn money from AdSense forever. Your work is just to upload videos on YouTube occasionally and wait for money in your account at the end of every month.

To create a YouTube channel is free and to start making money is free. Once your channel gets 12 months old and acquires over 1,000 subscribers, apply for AdSense. Your channel should also get over 4,000 watch time hours before applying for AdSense.

You can become a YouTuber and at the same time venture into other revenue generating activities.

  • Invest in Stock Market

Identify profitable companies and invest your money there. You can either invest in bonds or shares. But bonds are the best investment segment because they bear almost zero risks. If you invest in shares, you’ll be earning dividends annually. One of the best companies to buy shares from is Safaricom.

After buying shares or stock, there is nothing you are required to do, leave the money to work for you.

  • Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is another excellent source of passive income. I am one of the many Kenyans pursuing affiliate marketing. I earn more than Ksh500,000 per month from affiliate marketing alone. One of the programs I joined is 22Bet.If you also want to join the program, click on this link

Jumia is another company with a good affiliate program. This one is ideal for people with popular social media pages or blogs that review gadgets.

  • Invest in Money Market Fund

About 10 years ago, I didn’t know how Money Market Fund worked until a friend enlightened me. Currently, I save almost all my money in the Money Market Fund segment. Insurance, stock brokers and banks are some of the companies that offer this facility.

I like Money Market Fund because my money earns interest on monthly basis. Unlike Shares, money Market Fund is secure—the principal amount is not affected no matter how poor the market performs.

  • Save in Fixed Deposit Account

There are Kenyans who like savings in current accounts, others in fixed deposit accounts. I prefer Fixed Deposit account because it comes with higher interest rates. Banks like CFC Stanbic and CBA pay up to 14% interest on savings.

Instead of having your cash idle in your current account, open a Fixed Deposit account and start earning passive income.

  • Start giving loans to your friends and relatives

Shylock business is risky but rewarding if you lend money to people you can trust. There are friends, entrepreneurs and family members who would like to borrow from you instead of banks. This will be a wonderful opportunity for you to earn passive income. The borrowers will repay with some interest, hence generating passive income for you.

  • Join a Sacco

Saccos are a good source of passive income. When you are a member of any Sacco, you make contributions for shares. Your money is reinvested to generate income. Every financial year, members of a Sacco earn dividends.

  • Buy and sell Bitcoins

Cryptocurrency is another source of passive income. Your work is to identify the best time to buy and when to sell at a profit. You can buy one Bitcoin for Ksh300,000 and sell the same for Ksh1 million in just one month.

  • Rent out your house

If you own a home, you can rent out some rooms and start generating passive income. In Kenya, you’ll find some individuals owning a 5-bedroom house where 4 bedrooms are vacant. Instead of leaving the rooms idle, they opt to rent out and make money monthly.

Alternatively, rent a house in areas like Kilimani and Kileleshwa and start renting to interested individuals on daily, weekly or monthly basis. You can rent a three-bedroom house for Ksh30,000 and let out for Ksh3,000 per day.

  • Build Guest Houses or business premises

If your land is in areas where the demand for business premises is high, acquire a loan and build business premises or guest houses.

  • Selling information products online

Companies like Udemy and Cousera accept individuals to sell courses on their platforms. There are individuals who sell skills on those platforms. YouTube also allows you to make money by showcasing your skills.

You can also create a blog and start selling academic papers, especially form Kasneb, KCPE and KCSE.

Every time someone buys the product, you will make money. If your blog becomes popular and it happens that you are selling past papers, you’ll become a millionaire.

  • Run a Facebook page

Create a closed Facebook page which allow members to post on it—your work will be to moderate. When the page becomes viral, advertisers will start posting on it. Running a closed Facebook is very easy because the content is provided by followers.

  1. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s both educative and amusing, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail
on the head. The issue is something that too few men and women are speaking
intelligently about. I am very happy that I stumbled across this in my hunt for something concerning this.
