MASTERS PROGRAMS
Master in Public Administration (MPA)
The MPA programme is designed to enhance and promote research and innovations in the areas of Public Administration by inculcating knowledge on public administration principals and policy analysis to learners from diverse backgrounds and providing an avenue for graduates to join executive and administrative ranks in public sector management or participate in research and policy analysis in area of public administration.
The MPA programme aims to offer learners specialized academic training in public administration and research which would prepare them to be better and competent policy makers, administrators, trainers and public policy analysts capable of advancing and employing the best practices in public administration.
The general purpose of the MPA programme is to equip learners with knowledge, values and competencies related to theory and practice of governance and administration in public sector institutions
Expected Outcomes of the Programme
A graduate of the MPA programme should be able to;
- Manage and supervise all activities in a public sector set-up
- Carry out consultancies and research in public administration
- Prepare, analyze and implement budgets and policies in public sector
- Conduct public administration activities within the required legal and ethical standards
- Progress to higher levels of training in public administration
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the MPA programme, a candidate must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements;
- Be a holder of an academic degree in any discipline of at least second class honours (Upper Division) from an accredited institution
- Be a holder of a second class honours (Lower Division) academic degree from an accredited institution with at least two years relevant post-graduation working experience or relevant postgraduate qualification from an accredited institution
- Be a holder of a Pass academic degree from an accredited institution with at least five years relevant post-graduation working experience or two years relevant post-graduation working experience with relevant postgraduate qualification from an accredited institution or additional relevant qualification from an accredited institution.
Course Requirements
- Learners must attend at least eighty (80) percent of the classes for all the courses registered for
- Where a learner registers for extra elective courses, s/he must attend at least eighty (80) percent of the classes and the course cannot be dropped after it is registered for
- Learners must independently write a supervised research thesis in accordance with the university guidelines on graduate theses and projects
