DETAILED REQUIREMENTS

1.          CHIEF LEGAL OFFICER – GRADE 15.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Chief Legal officer will be in charge of the University Legal department;

Main Duties and Responsibilities;

  • Management of activities carried out by the University legal function
    Provide legal counsel to University Management Board and Council.
  • Coordinate preparation of all University Legal documents.
  • Interpret and implement University Statutes, Terms and Conditions of Service, Collective Agreements and other documents that have legal binding on the University
  • Offer legal advice to University on management and disposal of property.
  • Ensure University legal and regulatory frameworks are legally compliant through constant review.

Key Qualifications & Experience:

i.Master’s degree in law, Business Administration or any other related areas will be an added advantage

ii.Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Degree or its equivalent from a registered and recognized institution of Higher Learning.

iii.Post graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.

iv.Fully qualified public secretary (CPS-K)

v.Membership to relevant professional body – LSK.

vi.At least seven (7) years working experience in a large corporation and currently holding a similar or equivalent position.

2.         PHARMACIST        –           GRADE 12

Reporting to the Director, University Health Services the Job holder will be in charge of the University Pharmacy.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify pharmacy related issues/ challenges and propose solutions to Director , University Health Services.
  • Plan and offer pharmacy services to members of Kenyatta Community in accordance to agreed work plans.
  • Supervise supply and usage of medicine and ensure the pharmacy is fit for dispensation of Medicine Purposes.
  • Assess quality of Medicine before they are supplied to patients.
  • Monitor pharmacy operational requirements and manage technician schedules
  • Supervise verification processes of patients orders and charges
  • Maintains current registration, studies existing and new legislation, anticipates legislation, and advises management on needed action.

Qualifications:

a.                   Bachelors’ Degree in Pharmacy or relevant and related field from a registered and recognized institution.

b.                   Current registration certificate to the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

c.                   Three (3) years relevant work experience in a Public Institution pharmacy or busy pharmacy.

d.                   Valid practicing License

a.                   Bachelor Degree in Pharmaceutical Science or related field OR Higher National Diploma in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology Applied Sciences or health related field from a registered and recognized institution of Higher Learning.

b.                   At least three (3) years hands on relevant work experience in a reputable hospital or relevant work environment

c.                   Valid registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

d.                   Valid Practicing License

e.                   Computer Literate

4.         MEDICAL OFFICER – GRADE12

QUALIFICATIONS:

a.                   Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree programme (MBChB) or related field from a registered and recognized institution of Higher Learning.

b.                   At least three (3) years hands on medical consultation experience from a recognized hospital

c.                   Valid registration with the Kenya Medical and Dentist Practitioners Board.

d.                   Valid Practicing License

e.                   Computer Literate

f.                    High level of integrity and able to work under pressure.`

5.        MACHINE OPERATOR – GRADE III/IV

           QUALIFICATIONS:

a.                   KCE Division IV or KCSE mean grade D+ (Plus) or equivalent

b.                   Certificate in Machine Maintenance or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

c.                   At least Three (3) years relevant work experience in a busy organization.

d.                   Must be a person of integrity.

6.        SCHOOL OF HOSPITALITY TOURISM AND LEISURE STUDIES

            DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION AND SPORTS MANAGEMENT

I.I.PROFESSOR

QUALIFICATIONS:

i.An earned PhD. Degree from an accredited and recognized University.

ii.At least three (3) years of university teaching experience as Associate Professor

iii.Successfully supervised at least Five (5) Postgraduate students to completion and at least two (2) at Doctoral Level since being appointed Associate Professor.

iv.A minimum of cumulative sixty (60) publication points** of which at least forty (40) should be from articles in refereed scholarly journals after being appointed Associate Professor.

v.Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group after being appointed as Associate Professor.

vi.Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching

vii.Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars and workshops.

   

 

II.        ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

QUALIFICATIONS:

i.An earned PhD. Degree in an accredited and recognized University.

ii.At least three (3) years of university teaching experience as Senior Lecturer.

iii.A minimum of cumulative Forty Eight (48) publication points*, of which Thirty Two (32) are from articles in refereed scholarly journals after being appointed Senior Lecturer.

iv.Successful supervision of at least four (4) post graduate students including at least one (1) doctoral student as senior Lecturer.

v.Evidence of applying for a grant either individually or as a group after being appointed as Lecturer.

vi.Evidence of good quality teaching.

vii.Evidence of attendance and contribution at learned conferences, seminars or workshops.

 

III.              SENIOR LECTURER

QUALIFICATIONS:

i.An earned PhD. Degree in Recreation and Sports Management or Leisure and Recreation Management an accredited and recognized University.

ii.At least three (3) years of teaching experience at University level as Lecturer or six (6) years research / industry experience.

iii.A minimum of cumulative Thirty Two (32) publication points* of which Twenty Four (24) are from articles in refereed scholarly journals after being appointed Lecturer

iv.Successful supervision of at least three (3) post graduate students as lecturer.

v.Evidence of applying for a grant either individually or as a group after being appointed as Lecturer.

vi.Evidence of good quality teaching.

vii.Evidence of attendance and contribution at learned conferences, seminars or workshops.

IV.             LECTURER

1. CHIEF FINANCE OFFICER – GRADE 15
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance & Development), the Chief Finance Officer will oversee, coordinate and provide strategic guidance on financial management and accounting services through implementation of University Financial regulations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities;

  • Be the head of the Finance Department in the University and ensure it has all the required Human Resource and non-human resources to operate optimally.
  • Ensure preparation and timely submission of annual University Budget and Estimates as per the government timelines.
  • Formulate and oversee the implementation of financial policies and strategies in the University.
  • Coordinate response to audit queries emanating from external and internal auditors to ensure compliance with public Audit Act.
  • Offer guidance on periodic financial analysis of the University and produce financial statements and reports as may be required by stakeholders from time to time.
  • Establish internal controls for the University to safeguard its finances and assets.
  • Ensure prudent investment of University public funds in line with legal guidelines.
  • In liaison with the other relevant departments oversee management of all University financial commitment.

Qualifications:

  1. Masters’ Degree in Financial Management or equivalent from a registered and recognized institution
  2. Bachelors’ Degree in Commerce, Business Management or equivalent from a registered and recognized institution

2. DEPUTY FINANCE OFFICER – GRADE 14
Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, the Deputy Finance Officer will supervise the senior accountants and deputize the Chief Finance Officer in the following tasks;

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of accounts for all student income, Income generating activities and any other revenue items for reporting to management as may be required.
  • Work with budget holders in developing long term financial forecasts and provide advice to budget managers across the University on technical accounting
  • Prepare Annual University Budget by compiling departmental income and expenditure for control and management of the University resources.
  • Review disbursement and utilization of donor funds and research grants to ensure compliance with existing regulations
  • Provide initial evaluation and scrutiny of expenditure proposals and compilation of information required in the budgetary processes.
  • Ensure timely preparation of financial statistical information regarding expenditure incurred by entire University on bills payment.
  • Control of expenditure commitments, including but not limited to all eligible allowances, claims and funds advances.
  • Spearhead Implementation of the recommendations for budgetary resources and proposals.
  • Conduct and prepare financial expenditure audit reports and financial statements for the management.

Qualifications:

  1. Masters’ Degree in Financial Management or any other relevant area from a recognized institution
  2. Bachelors’ Degree in Commerce, Business Management or equivalent from a recognized institution
  3. CPA (K) or the equivalent qualification

3. CHIEF INTERNAL AUDITOR- GRADE 15
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Chief Internal Auditor will work together with the University Management and the University Council Audit Committee to provide internal processes control and risk management.

Main Duties and Responsibilities;

  • Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide the University Internal Audit Functions.
  • Carry out a full audit cycle on University Operation effectiveness, financial reliability and compliance with all applicable government directives and regulations.
  • Analyze and evaluate reports, data and any other relevant documentation from Finance Department and recommend how procedures and processes can be made more effective.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of the yearly Internal Audit plan
  • Provide Management with reports on internal audit activities and engagements, as may be required.
  • Provide quarterly reports to the University Council Audit Committee to facilitate decision making.
  • Carry out investigative audits as may be requested by Management from time to time.
  • Liaise with external auditors in both interim and final audits, for an external opinion of the financial affairs of Kenyatta University

Qualifications:

  1. Masters’ Degree in Financial Management or any other relevant area from a registered and recognized institution

4. HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER – GRADE 14
Reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), the Human Resource Manager will plan, direct, and coordinate human resource management functions of the University to maximize the strategic use of human capital.

Main Duties and Responsibilities;

  • Develop proposals and provide technical guidance on Human Resource policies and strategies for the university within the framework of Industrial and Labor Laws of Kenya.
  • Regularly review the staff establishment and submit recommendations on necessary adjustments.
  • Perform annual Human Resource audits and submit reports to the University Management Board.
  • Develop and oversee implementation of a comprehensive framework for effective succession management in the University.
  • Conduct performance appraisal to establish skills gaps and provide relevant training in the department among members of staff in the university.
  • Prepare notices and advertisements for vacant positions to assist in the attraction of competent candidates for enhanced service delivery.
  • Develop human resource work plans, budgets and procurement plans to ensure continuous provision of services and ensure staff have the requisite tools and equipment to perform their tasks
  • Oversee the evaluation, classification and rating of occupation and job positions in the University to ensure proper placement and compensation
  • Oversee the welfare of the staff through medical services, provision of logistical support in cases of bereavement of staff or dependents and provision of relevant insurance cover.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA and WIBA regulations.
  • Provide and coordinate training opportunities for staff and career development.

Qualifications:

  1. Masters Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or any other relevant qualification from a registered and recognized institution
  2. For those with Masters degree with NO Human Resource Management Specialization a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Human Resource Management is a must.
  3. Bachelors’ Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or any other relevant degree from a registered and recognized institution
  4. At least three (3) years working experience as a Senior Assistant Registrar (Grade 13 ) or equivalent position in the University.

5. PENSIONS MANAGER – GRADE 15
Reporting to the Kenyatta University Pension Trustee Board, the Pensions Manager will work together with the Kenyatta University Employee Pension Fund to carry out the following functions.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To give advice to the University in relation to legislative issues concerning pensions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to Head- Procurement the Supply and Logistics Manager will;
a) Safeguard all stock levels and ensure stores do not suffer deterioration or overstocking.
b) Prepare reports biannually to the Head- Procurement on any absolute /unserviceable stores.
c) Examine frequently the security state of the stores, ensure that the stores are manned at all times and no unauthorized persons access stores
d) Ensure that the preservation and storage practices of the stores are maintained at a level that ensures longevity of storage span of goods is not affected.
e) Regularly provide the Head , Procurement with advice on condemned and damaged stores.
f) Apply FIFO in the issuing process.
g) Ensure proper stock allocations and labelling of items and visible notices within the store premises as per nature of items being stored.

INTERNAL ADVERTISEMENT- REGISTRAR (PLANNING AND STRATEGY)
Kenyatta University Council wishes to invite applications from eminent individuals who are suitably qualified with outstanding academic credentials and relevant administrative experience for the position of Registrar (Planning and Strategy);
Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Be a holder of an earned Ph.D. degree or equivalent from a reputable University.
  • Candidates with training in Project Planning, Economics, Strategic Management and Business Management will have added advantage.
  • Must be at least a Senior Lecturer or equivalent.
  • Applicants should have at least five (5) years proven administrative work experience at a senior level, in a reputable institution of higher learning or have at least five (5) years industry experience with strong ability and knowledge in strategic planning and implimentation. .
  • Have knowledge and skills in planning, developing and implementing strategic plans.

Duties and Responsibilities:
While reporting to Vice Chancellor;

  • Spearhead development of the University’s strategic plan and the regular review of the same so as to guide in determination of the long term goals of the University.
  • Participate in the development of the University’s master plan so as to offer guidance towards achievement of the University’s strategic direction.
  • Develop and continually co-ordinate customer satisfaction and service delivery standards so as to ensure continued achievement of desired organizational goals..
  • Spearhead formulation of an organizational framework for planning and administration of Income Generating Activities (IGAs) to gurantee their profitability
  • Generate periodic comparative data on institutional performance in relation to other similar institutions so as to guide in benchmarking of best practices.
  • In collaboration with other members of Management Board, participate in development of long term and short term policies to govern the strategic operations of the various units of the University .
  • Organize the periodic review of all relevant policies so as to enhance continuous improvement in service delivery within the University.
  • Give contribution to the development of annual budgets, for use on strategic objectives for the University.
  TERMS OF SERVICE:
The terms of Service for this position is Four (4) year renewable contract subject to satisfactory performance.
A competitive remuneration package which includes basic salary, generous house allowance, medical cover as per University Scheme, Leave allowance and Official transport will be provided.
