Economics and Statistics Admission Requirements in Kenya

Economics and Statistics is one of the most marketable courses in Kenya. It’s offered by a couple of established universities in the country.

Here are the admission requirements for the course:

Egerton University Bachelor Of Science In Economics And Statistics admission requirements
Applicants to this programme must satisfy the minimum entry requirements for admission into the University. In addition, applicants must have at least the grade of B minus (B-) in Mathematics, or C+ in Mathematics and B in Economics/Commerce/Accounting/ Business studies. Holders of A- level qualifications with two principal passes in Economics or Mathematics will be considered.
Course Structure and Duration
The undergraduate degree programme extends over four academic years. Every academic year consists of two semesters of seventeen weeks, the last two weeks being devoted to examinations. There is, therefore, a total of 8 semesters during the four-year period of study. The weighting of courses if in terms of semester units where semester units is equivalent to 45 lecture hours.
The B.Sc. Economics and Statistics requires the student to complete a minimum of 48 courses, at least 20 in economics and a minimum of 18 in statistics. The student, by consent of the department, shall then be required to take at least 9 non-economics units of heir own choice, from the options available during the duration of study.
Elective courses are offered only in the third and fourth years of study. They are selected by students during each semester and are aimed at enabling the student to specialize in a particular area. The specialization area selected and the related electives must be adhered to throughout the two-year period.
Each 3.0 CF course will take a minimum of 45 contact hours per semester and each will be examined for two hours.

Mount Kenya University Bachelor of Economics and Statistics Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements

  1. KCSE or equivalent certificate with a minimum of C+ and grade C+ (plus) in both Mathematics and English or similar grades in an equivalent examination approved by the University Senate.   Or.
  2. KACE or equivalent Certificate with a minimum of 2 principles passes and O level Credit in Mathematics and English Language. Or
  3. Diploma in relevant disciplines with a minimum of C plain at KCSE from an institution recognized by the University Senate.

Kenyatta University Bachelor of Economics and Statistics Admission Requirements

University of Nairobi Bachelor of Economics and Statistics Admission Requirements

Applicants for the Bachelor of Economics and Statistics degree must, in the first instance, satisfy the general University of Nairobi’s admission requirements.

In addition, they should have obtained a minimum of grade c+ in Mathematics offered in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, or their equivalents.

Where the equivalents are difficult to establish, a candidate may be required to pass an entrance examination before being admitted into the programme. The pass mark for the entry examination shall be 50%.

University of Embu Bachelor of Economics and Statistics Admission Requirement

  1. Mean grade C+ at KCSE or equivalent with at least C+ in Mathematics; OR,
  2. KACE or equivalent with at least two Principal passes with Credit pass in Mathematics at KCE or equivalent.
