It takes approximately 3 years to become a successful blogger. But the duration can be longer or shorter depending on various factors. For my case, it took me two years to become successful.
A successful blogger is someone who makes money consistently that can sustain his lifestyle. Normally, those bloggers earning $1,000 and above constantly are regarded as successful. For one to claim to be successful, he must consider these factors:
- Constant income of $1,000 and above
Your income must be at least $1,000 per month for more than a year. This is the lowest amount to earn that can sustain your lifestyle monthly.
You cannot claim to be successful when your income oscillates between $0 and $1000 monthly—it should either be constant or going upwards.
- Your traffic should be constantly increasing
A blog with heavy constant traffic is successful. I consider traffic of more than 500,000 per month as ideal for a successful blog. If your traffic has never gone down for the past three years, then it means you have become a successful blogger.
- You have various streams of income
A successful blog should attract sponsored articles, direct banners, paid video advertisements and affiliate marketing income. If your only source of income is AdSense, then count yourself not successful yet.
The moment you realize that companies are sending sponsored posts for publications, others are engaging you for direct banner adverts, know that you have become successful.
- You own authority blog
It’s hard for a new blog to command any authority unless it’s at least 3 years old. If in your niche, all your articles are placed in page one of search engines, those are signs of success.
When you create a new blog, the first year is not enough to gauge whether it’s successful or not, but three years are enough. For passionate bloggers, two years will tell whether your blog is about to break even or not.
