Architecture is one of the highly rated professions in Kenya. The course is offered by few top universities in Kenya, which include the University of Nairobi, JKUAT and Kenyatta University. Entry requirements include at least a C+ in KCSE for parallel students and above B+ for regular students.

This particular course has numerous job opportunities in Kenya and is also the best course to pursue if you want to be your own boss. Entry requirements to various universities are as follows:

Architecture KCSE Grade for BSc. Architecture Course

  1. KCSE (Mean C+) and C+ passes in each of the four cluster subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or any Group III, IV and V; or
  2. Advanced Level Certificate: Two principal passes in Maths and Physics with subsidiary pass in Chemistry. For B.Sc. in Geospatial Engineering, a subsidiary pass in Geography is acceptable in lieu of Chemistry; or
  3. Ordinary Diploma from a recognized institution with Credit Passes in the relevant subjects; or
  4. Higher National Diploma from a recognized institution with passes in relevant subjects; or
  5. Technical/Science Diploma from a recognized institution with Credit Passes in Mathematics and Chemistry from a recognized institution; or
  6.  B.Sc or B.Ed (Science) from a recognized institution; or other appropriate technical qualification at degree level.
  7. And any other relevant criteria listed in the General Admissions Criteria.

At JKUAT, these are the entry requirements

Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) with a minimum aggregate of B- (minus) and C+ (plus) as the minimum grade in cluster Groups of 4 subjects which include: Mathematics, Physics, any subject from Group III (History and Government OR Geography OR Christian Religious Education OR Islamic Religious Education OR Hindu Religious Education); or 2nd Group II (Biology or Chemistry); OR 2nd OR 2nd Group III OR Group IV (Home Science or Art and Design or Agriculture or Aviation Technology or Computer Studies); OR Group V (French, German, Arabic, Music, Business Studies

Kenyatta University KCSE Grades and Entry Requirements are as follows

Entry  Requirements

Candidates shall be eligible for admission into the Bachelor of Science in Real Estate Development and Valuation in the School of Architecture and Spatial Planning in the following categories:

 KCSE Candidates

The basic admission requirement shall be the minimum entry requirements set for entry into the public universities, which is an average of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). In addition, candidates are expected to have obtained at least a grade C+ (plus) in each of the following subject clusters:

  • Mathematics and Any group II, Any Group III
  • 2nd subject Group II / 2nd Group III / any Group IV/ any Group V

 KACE (‘A’ Level) Applicants or Equivalent:

Two Principal Passes in any one of the following subjects: Economics, History, Geography, Commerce, or any other relevant subject, and a credit pass in the English language and Mathematics at KCE level or equivalent.

Diploma Holders:

Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Diploma or its equivalent in:  Building Construction, Architectural Studies, Land Surveying and Civil Engineering; or Diploma in Estate Agency and Property Management from Kenyatta University or any other institution of higher learning recognized by Kenyatta University Senate.

Candidates with a Diploma in Technology (Dip. Tech) in Land Administration from an institution recognized by Kenyatta University senate.

At Technical University of Kenya these are the minimum entry requirements

Bachelor of Architecture degree (B. ARCH)

Duration

  • 4 years of resident study with a 1 year external practical attachment embedded within the four years.

Diploma of Technology in Architecture (Dip Tech Arch) or Equivalent

Bachelor of Technology in Architecture (B Tech Arch) or Equivalent
