KCSE Admission Requirements To Pursue BSc Education in Kenyan Universities

Bachelor of education, which leads to a career in teaching is offered by several universities in Kenya. When joining Kenyan universities for a BSc Education Degree, you either join through Joint Admission Board or as a self-sponsored student. JAB required higher KCSE grades, which is usually above B plain but with a C+ grade you can be admitted to public and private universities in Kenya.

EGERTON UNIVERSITY BSC EDCUATION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission Requirements
Candidates admitted to the Degree of Bachelor of Education (Science) must satisfy the minimum entrance requirements of the Egerton University. They must also satisfy departmental requirements before registering for courses in the respective departments. In satisfying the minimum entrance requirements of the University, candidates must have passed the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with the minimum grades against each subject as indicated below:
C+ in Mathematics
C+ in any of the following:
(i) Physics
(ii) Chemistry
(iii) Biology
(iv) Geography
or
B- in any of the following subjects:
Physical Sciences
Biological sciences
Alternatively, admission may be granted to holders of Diploma/S1 certificate in science Education from Institutions recognised by Egerton University provided the diplomas are at credits and above.

UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI BACHELOR OF EDUCATION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • KCSE mean grade C+ or equivalent
  • KCSE mean grade C- or equivalent plus a Certificate and Diploma
  • O Level Division II or equivalent plus a Diploma
  • O Level Division III or equivalent plus a Certificate and Diploma
  • O Level Division III or equivalent plus a three-year Diploma from a recognized post secondary Institution for admissions to Bachelor of Education
  • Diploma from University of Nairobi or other recognized institutions and an aggregate of C in KCSE or equivalent
  • A Level with two principal passes or equivalent in relevant subjects Only Applicants whose results are available at the time of application will be considered
  • CPAII/CPSII/CIPS or equivalent for Commerce and Arts and should have attained an aggregate of C in KCSE or O level Division III
  • P1 from a two-year post secondary training institution for entry into Bachelor of Education with Minimum KCSE Mean Grade C or O Level Division III
  • Higher National Diploma in relevant fields and should have attained an aggregate of C in KCSE
  • Degree from a recognized University
  • Equivalent qualifications to the above from institutions recognised by Senate
  • O Level Division III or equivalent plus a three-year Diploma from a recognized post secondary Institution for admissions to Bachelor of Education
  • Diploma from University of Nairobi or other recognized institutions and an aggregate of C in KCSE or equivalent
  • A Level with two principal passes or equivalent in relevant subjects Only Applicants whose results are available at the time of application will be considered

MOUNT KENYA UNIVERSITY BACHELOR OF EDUCATION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Entry Requirements for a Bachelors Degree.

The entry requirements set out below must be regarded as minimum a requirement which in no way directly entitles an applicant to a place in the university. The following requirements must be fulfilled: –

  1.  A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with an average grade C+ (C Plus) or its equivalent passed from at least eight subjects as one sitting drawn from subject clusters as stipulated by the Kenya National Examinations Council.

Or
b.    One of the following combinations of passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education or Advanced Certificate Level of the General Certificate of Education.
i.    Two Principals or Advanced Level passes of at least Grade C obtained at the same sitting.
ii.    Two principals or Advanced Level passes obtained at different sittings provided that both passes are of Grade C or higher.

Or
c.    Applicants who have not taken any of the above examinations must produce acceptable documentary evidence of having passed an examination of equivalent standards by a signed statement of attainment from the Head of the last school or College attended or from the respective education authority.

RIARA UNIVERSITY BACHELOR OF EDUCATION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Entry Requirements for Admission to the School of Education:

Applicants for the Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree programme must be holders of:

  • KCSE (or equivalent) mean grade of C+
  •  O-Level with at least five credits
  •  A-Level with at least two principals
  •  IB diploma with at least 24 points
  •  Diploma certificate from Teacher Training Colleges (TCCs), polytechnics or other recognized tertiary colleges.

CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF EASTERN AFRICA BACHELOR OF EDUCATION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Undergraduate/Bachelor’s degree programmes

  • KCSE holders must have a minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus).
  • Advanced Certificate of Education GCE or A-levels applicants must have at least 2 principal passes and one subsidiary pass or its equivalent and must have passed in subjects related to the course applied for.
  • Diploma or professional certificate in a relevant discipline from an institution recognized by the University Senate.
  • Advanced Diploma in a Relevant field, applicant must have an ordinary diploma from a recognized institution,
  • Applicants for Advanced Diploma in Teaching in Higher Education must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in any field.
  • Pre-University certificate with a mean of c+ (plus) and above from a recognized institution, and must have scored a C in KSCE or its equivalent.

Non-Kenyans

  • Must have satisfied the minimum University entry requirement in their country and meet departmental requirements for the subject applied for.
  • Candidates from non-English speaking countries shall be required to pass a special entrance exam set by CUEA and demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English or have acquired a TOEFL score of 530 [paper based test] OR 2.3 [computer based test] or a score of at least 7.0 on the international English language Test System or their equivalent.

UNIVERSITY OF ELDORET BACHELOR OF EDUCATION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum mean grade of C+ at KCSE level or its equivalent,
  • Diploma from a recognized institution may be admitted to second year of study,
  • Minimum C+ in the two Science subjects.

KCA UNIVERSITY BACHELOR OF EDUCATION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum admission requirements:

Candidates shall only be admitted to the B.Ed. (Arts) Degree Programme if they hold a:

  • KCSE with minimum pass of C+ (Plus) and minimum grade C+ on teaching subject combination
  • KACE with at least 2 Principal Passes and 1 Subsidiary
  • KACE with at least 1 Principal and 2 Subsidiary Passes or their equivalent
  • KACE with at least 1 Principal and 2 Subsidiary Passes or their equivalent
  • KCE with at least Division 2  or its equivalent, or
  • Diploma/S1 Certificate in Arts Teacher Education from a recognized institution

Subject Combination:

Mathematics/ Business Studies, Mathematics/ Computer Studies, Mathematics/ Geography, English/Literature, Geography/Business Studies.

MAASAI MARA UNIVERSITY BACHELOR OF EDUCATION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Undergraduate Programmes

  • Minimum mean grade of C+ at KCSE OR
  • 2 principals and 1 subsidiary pass at “A” level OR
  • A Diploma in a relevant field of study from a recognized institution.
  • In addition, applicants must meet the specific subject requirements for each programme

I mean grade of B plain ie Math B, English C-, Kisw C+, Geo A-, commerce A-, Physics B+, Chemistry B+, Social Education and Ethics B that was in 2005.
